Artificial Intelligence (AI Policy)

The International Journal of Architectural Engineering & Urban Planning (IJAUP) recognizes the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in scholarly research and academic publishing. The Journal supports the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI tools while maintaining the highest standards of research integrity, originality, and accountability.
The Journal’s AI policy is informed by internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
General Principles
Artificial Intelligence tools may assist Authors, Reviewers, and Editors in appropriate aspects of the publication process. However, AI systems cannot assume responsibility for scholarly work or editorial decisions.
Human judgment, academic integrity, and professional responsibility remain essential throughout the research, peer review, and publication process.
Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools to assist with activities such as:
- improving grammar, spelling, or language clarity;
- enhancing readability and manuscript organization;
- programming, data processing, or statistical analysis;
- preparing visualizations or illustrations, where appropriate;
- supporting literature exploration or idea generation.
- the accuracy and validity of all content;
- the originality of the manuscript;
- the interpretation of research findings;
- compliance with ethical and copyright requirements.
Disclosure of AI Use
Authors should disclose the use of AI tools when such tools have made a substantial contribution to the preparation of the manuscript, including the generation or modification of text, figures, images, tables, data analysis, or other scholarly content.
Routine language editing or minor editorial assistance does not normally require disclosure.
Where disclosure is appropriate, Authors should describe the AI tool used and the nature of its contribution in the manuscript.
Authorship
Artificial Intelligence systems cannot be listed as Authors or co-authors.
AI tools cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, originality, accuracy, or accountability of scholarly work.
Only natural persons who meet the Journal’s authorship criteria may be identified as Authors.
Accuracy and Verification
Authors are responsible for carefully reviewing and verifying all AI-assisted content before submission.
AI-generated content may contain factual inaccuracies, fabricated references, misleading interpretations, or biased outputs. Authors must ensure that all submitted material has been critically evaluated and verified.
Copyright and Intellectual Property
Authors are responsible for ensuring that AI-assisted content does not infringe copyright, confidentiality, privacy, or intellectual property rights.
The Journal reserves the right to request clarification regarding the origin of any AI-generated material where necessary.
AI-Generated Images and Visual Content
In disciplines such as architecture, urban planning, and design, AI-generated images, renderings, diagrams, or visualizations may be used when they contribute to scholarly communication.
Authors should clearly identify AI-generated or substantially AI-modified visual content where such material forms part of the scholarly contribution and should ensure that its use does not misrepresent research findings or infringe the rights of others.
Use of AI by Reviewers
Reviewers must preserve the confidentiality of all manuscripts.
Manuscripts under review, or any part of their content, must not be uploaded to publicly accessible or third-party AI systems if doing so could compromise confidentiality, intellectual property, or the rights of the Authors.
Reviewers remain solely responsible for the content and quality of their review reports.
Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI tools for limited editorial support, such as language improvement, administrative assistance, or technical screening.
Editorial decisions, peer review management, ethical assessments, and publication decisions must always be made by Editors and must never be delegated to AI systems.
Compliance
Failure to comply with this policy may result in editorial action in accordance with the Journal’s Publication Ethics Policy and other applicable editorial policies.
The Journal reserves the right to request additional information regarding the use of AI tools during manuscript assessment.
Policy Review
As Artificial Intelligence technologies continue to evolve, IJAUP will periodically review and update this policy to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, publication ethics, and international best practices.
